The Current State of Affairs

Hey, long time no write. It’s been a while since I’ve had the perfect storm of time, motivation, & content to finally make a post here, but today is that day. I feel like it’s time to update, clarify, and honestly just write again. And it feels good to be back! Life has been moving fast lately, but the past few months have been full of incredible experiences. I can’t even fathom how quickly summer’s going, and how much I’ve grown in such a short time. Here’s the shortlist:

college post new chicago graduation update
6/27/2021
  • commited to a college
  • graduated
  • went to prom
  • got a job (guess where?)
  • had a grad party
  • picked housing
  • got a roomate
  • signed up for orientation & immersion week
  • turned 18
  • declared my major
  • made lots of friends
  • decided to move to Chicago (!!!)

So as you can tell, I’ve been busy. I work in a bakery now (perfect, right?) and I love it. Making confectionery all day and getting paid for it is the best arrangement. Graduation was also wild, and the party was even better. It felt great to reconnect with people, some of whom I haven’t seen since last year. However, the craziest thing is the decision that defines my future: school. Welcome to the Chicago era! This fall, I’ll be living in the city at long last. Studying film, taking the train downtown for classes, and living a 2-minute walk from the Dunkin’ (the most important part). I’m seriously excited to see all that the world has to offer and I feel like this is the only choice that’s truly fulfilling for me, so I’m ready to go live it.

Then, it’s a whirlwind of moving in, making friends, orientation, club fairs, campus activities, and getting accustomed to the city. I made my class schedule yesterday! It’s that type of situation where I knew it would eventually happen to me, but now that it is, I can’t believe it. It’s even weirder to watch it happen to my friends. We’re all becoming adults now.

But circling back, I’m not sure what that means for the blog. I’d love to continue posting, but honestly, it was hard to maintain creating the detailed posts I had been. I found myself not even wanting to start because it was so labor-intensive. I’d think, “I should make a post, but it would have to be consistent with the others. I don’t have time for that, so I’ll just do it later.” And then spoiler alert, I didn’t.

However, I’ve realized that letting self-imposed standards get in the way of my passion is way worse than being a little inconsistent. This is my blog, and it doesn’t have to be perfect. So moving forward, So Cosmopoliteen is going in a more casual direction. I think shorter posts about whatever inspires me: life updates, fashion opinions, anything. No more super long descriptions or hundreds of photos, just stuff that I actually want to write. Though I can’t promise anything with the crazy year I’ve got ahead, I’m going to try.

Another unknown is my baking. The residence hall I’ll be living in this fall has a kitchen, but that doesn’t seem feasible for a lot of reasons. Can you imagine making a Blood Orange Loaf Cake in a dorm?! As much as I’d love to, it just won’t work. Besides, Chicago is going to have so many places to go, opportunities to take, and people to meet; I can’t prioritize hobby-baking, sad as that is. So, this site will likely become a ‘lifestyle’ blog with less of a focus on recipes. Yes, it’s a big switch, but I’m kinda ready for it. Everything else is changing, so why wouldn’t this? ;))

I’ll stop it there, and start pumping out some posts with actual content, but it’s been great to catch up again. I hope you’ve all been doing well and are having a similarly transformative summer, especially if you’re also going off to college. It’s the strangest feeling, but also the best.

As always, I seriously hope you love this post, and hope to talk soon. Have a great night.
